Super centers pay more as do Better restaurants and in some of the super centers when you are hired they pay you according to your experience. I know this from experience. I worked at a fast food restaurant as a manager for almost 5 yrs. and when I left for the WMT Super center where I now work I got a $1.50 raise per hour over what I was making start out pay and then in 90 days got another $.55 raise. DO NOT try a Fast food restaurant they only pay minimum wage. Also if you could find a factory job even tho I know it does not sound fun they Do have a tendency to pay more than minimum.

Any Jewelry store in the mall (Zales/Kays/etc) will start you off at least for $8.00/hr + COMMISSION. Thats the biggie, you can earn like an extra $1000 per month, and thats if you're just "decent". So the earning potential for a good salesperson is huge.

Even better - try a car dealership!

Actually here's my opinion, ANY job that pays commission is great for you because it offers an expansive earning potential where the only thing limiting you, is YOU.

So its all on your shoulders, young one.

Go forth, and good luck.

What you failed to include in your Answer was your specific skillset and interests. Otherwise, if you're not willing to work a job with commissions or tips, you might think about personal service employment (gardener, shopping asst., etc.) until more formal education is achieved (whether college, trade school, etc.) Also, do not forget about some of the temporary agencies, which offer benefits - sometimes the lower wage is justified if there are benefits that go along with it.

Good luck!

Try a staffing agency. You can gain important experience in working in an office environment and you should make at least $10-$11/hour.

Just make sure that the staffing agency does not charge you anything as some are corrupt and do. If they say they are paying you $10/hour they should be paying you that much minus the governmental/state taxes.

United Parcel Service is always looking for young strong people to be loaders at their service centers. They pay $ 8.50/hr. Federal Express is also always on the lookout for energetic kids to work in their terminals - they pay $ 13/hr.

Neither one of these jobs require any previous experience.

I always liked lifeguarding. Most places will train you nowadays if you have decent swimming skills. (Red Cross says you have to be able to swim 500 yards.) Pool guards (much easier than beach guards) get paid between 8 and 15 to start here in California, where our minimum wage is 6.75.

Servers at restaurants make great money with tips. Go for a busy restaurant. I made a killing at Applebee's while i was going through college. Paid the bills and gave me the spending money i needed!
