Pigs are very smart.

Would you be able to smell truffles that were buried and be able to track them down and dig them out? I doubt it.

If you care to see just how much memory and inteligence they hold, take a look at the the following link!

I saw a show once where this guy had trained his pigs to do all kinds of things. They could skate board, put a ball through a basket (the little kid size), sit, come, sit pretty, and all the usual tricks dogs learn. He had normal size pigs - the type usually found in a barn, and they lived in his house. I had a neighbor that had a rather large pig (we live in the city, so it was probably not allowed). Anyway, that pig was very affectionate and would come when he was called.

When I was a student at a large veterinary school, they had some lab pigs that we taught to sit on command, just like a dog. This made it easier to trim their hooves when necessary. These were not fancy potbellied pet pigs, they were just run-of-the-mill farm pigs.

Also, pigs have displayed the ability to play with toys, which is a sure sign of intelligence.

Intelligence is innate, but it takes education/training to bring it to it's fullest potential. Since very few pigs are harbored as pets, most people will not get to see a pig do anything they would consider intelligent.

I am sure some pet Pot Bellied Pigs have been well trained.

I have pigs on my farm. On time I saw a 300# pig help my husband get out of his pen. By putting his nose right under my hubby's foot for balance. So he wouldn't fall. Then he pushed up w/ his nose, but not very hard. Unfortunitly we had to sell him. My 2 yr old could go right up ,and pet him. He would not move unless he was sure she was out of the way.

I've seen them in many tv shows and movies. Evidently they can act. That's more than you can say for a lot of humans.
