Holi is celebrated during the three days spanning the period of the full moon in March. Celebrations take place primarily on the day of the full moon, however, the lighting of bonfires begins the day before, and celebrations often spill into the day following the full moon

To answer the question - what is Holi - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holi. It is so much fun and the N.Indian communities in the US celebrates it pretty well.
