I have Verizon DSL and want to be able to use it more outside my home--up to 1000 feet maybe. I bought a wireless G plus router, but could not get it to work. Any ideas?

Get a range extender!

DSL rides over the same copper wires as does your voice telephone service; but at a much higher frequency. The higher the frequency, the greater the signal loss. DLS is limited to about three miles end to end. At 5 miles, you are too far to recieve a DSL signal from the Central Office in the city. To provide you with DSL the telephone company needs to build a new, small central office within two miles of you. They need to buy property, get building permits, design and build the building, install the equipment, run a fiber feed from the city, etc.. Many millions of dollars. Once it is built you can have your telephone service moved to this new central office and get your DSL. Assume 1,000 people in your area get DSL thru this new location. You each pay $20 a month. This will pay off the $10,000,000 cost of providing you service in about 40 years.

wait about 6 months and the market will be full of routers that have 1-1/2 to 2 times the range they do now. Also beware a range extender will cut bandwidth and connectivity reliance, so you can connect from further away at the expense of less speed and reliability.

Can you be more specific about why the wireless router did not work? You have exactly what you need to do what you need to do. You just need to get it to work. You might need to configure or hack it to be more powerful, or you might need a Yagi antenna to pick it up (Google it), or you might need a new antenna for your access point, or you might need to just more carefully place it. 1000 feet is a lot to ask for. It's possible you'll have to buy another access point to get that kind of distance. But in any case your first priority is getting it to work at all, and it doesn't sound like it does, if I am understanding you correctly.
