WiMax is a new technology for supply wireless internet access out to approximately 30 miles radius from the transceiver. It's still undergoing development and is still in beta testing. Maybe by the end of 2007...

If it delivers as promissed, high speed WiFi could be made available in areas where it is not currently possible. Google for more info or try Wikipedia.
