Hmm. You will mostly get simple Yeses or nos. The short answer is: we don't know for sure. I know a lot of my gay/lesbian/bi friends would kick my tail for that, but the scienfic answer is we don't know. What I DO know is that when I was a teenager, I grew up not knowing even one gay person (of course there were, but I didn't know). When I've tried to be intimate with a man, it was uncomfortable and disgusting despite the fact that I (still, as a friend) love the man. It felt like the sexual chemicals in my body were repulsed by his. With women, it feels natural and my chemicals react accordingly. I have never talked to an LGBT who feels they chose this for themselves. It's just the way it feels. There is an excellent book called Is It a Choice? by Eric Marcus. It's frank answers by LGBT about the ways that we feel. Thank you for your interest.

I know without a doubt that that I am not sexually attracted to men, and for me to "be gay" would definitely be a choice. I have always been attracted to the opposite sex, and that was never a choice I had to make. And I'm not going to go experimenting to find out if that could change. So I wonder why the same would not be true for gays. Since I have no choice as to my sexual preference, why should I think that those with different orientations have a choice in the matter?
If someone contends that they were always attracted to the same sex, we should give them the benefit of the doubt. Apart from that, if a person has sexual relations with a member of the same sex, then they have made a choice. So I suggest that being attracted to the same sex is not necessarily a choice, but having a homosexual relationship is a choice. Then you have to answer the question, "is being homosexual defined by what you do or by what you want?" I am attracted to women, but since I am not married I don't have sex. Am I still heterosexual? If someone were attracted to their own sex but refrained from having sexual relations, would they be homosexual?
One last question I wish everyone would think about. Could you stop being attracted to whichever sex you are attracted to by choice?

Nope. Why do you think someone would choose to be discriminated against like that? Being gay is just as much of a choice as being straight: IT ISN'T.

No definately not, do you ever remember a time when you thought to yourself, right then shall i be gay or straight. You just become either way as part of a natural progression as you get older, you dont actively decide who you are going to be attracted to, it just happens.
