My son had it so bad, that after he was born, he got pneumonia because it went into his lungs and had to stay in the nicu for two weeks. He was on two different medicines, but he just outgrew it around four months.
I always made sure he burped real good, and he was never on his back.

My son had reflux, and was on Zantac from 1 month old until about 7 months old. He completely outgrew it by around 8 months old. My daughter has reflux, and Zantac didn't help her. She's on Prevacid, which has helped greatly. She is also now on a formula that does not have DHA/ARA added, some babies get sick from it and it can make reflux worse. Since making these changes she's gone from spitting up 30 times/day to under 5 times/day, and no longer screams constantly. She's almost 6 months old.

Good news is that reflux gets better with the baby's age. Generally when they are greater than 7months of age. There are multiple treatment options depending on the severity. Anything from thickened feeds(if baby takes a bottle) to different medications. At home you can keep her upright for 45-60 minutes after a feeding, make sure diaper is not too tight. The pressure can push up on the stomach. Your best source is going to be your baby's doctor. They will go over all the symptoms and can decide what is best.

My baby had reflux and she grew out of it at about 8-9 months. The pd gave her reflux medication which helped a lot. At least she wasn't puking 5 times a day, every day, and screaming each time she was placed in a lying-down position.

My son has reflux (is on Prevacid Solutabs 2x per day). He was started on rice cereal from a spoon just before he reached 3 months (doctors orders). It helped tremendously with respect to his evening feedings. The rice will help keep the liquids down. If your doc does not prescribe something along the lines of Zantac or Prevacid, I'd ask for a referral to a specialist. If the Gaviscon is not working, she'll need something more. I had to go to the pediatrician 4 times before I insisted that he see a specialist, and after he did, everything changed. He was properly dosed, his formula was changed, and he became a happy baby. Your little one does not need to be drinking any set amount of formula to be on baby cereal for reflux if it helps - but I would discuss this with your pediatrician so that you know how much to give her. You'll also want to continue to try and get 2.5 ounces of formula into her per pound of body weight per day. Good luck!

My son outgrew reflux at about 7 months old. Whoever says babies don't get reflux is just crazy. We had an upper GI that showed the reflux.

The food that you swallow travels down your throat and is pushed by contractions of the muscular esophagus. In the area where the esophagus joins the stomach a valve-like mechanism, known as lower esophageal sphincter (LES), is located. The closure of this muscle prevents stomach acid from backing up, or refluxing, into the esophagus. LES malfunction is the first factor that causes and contributes to gastro-esophageal reflux disease. In a healthy individual, the LES relaxes only when food passes from the esophagus into the stomach. After the food passes into the stomach, the valve shuts off, keeping the stomach content and acid inside. However, when the LES is weak and doesn't close properly, acid can splash up into your throat causing painful burning sensation, called heartburn.

My youngest daughter had reflux - she saw a specialist who put her on this liquid medicine called Reglan - he also monitored her to assure that she was growing properly. Nothing really helped with her - anything liquid that went down came back up - she stopped when she was about 1.
