Yes to a certain degree, many dancers can move better if they dont have excess weight on them, but you dont have to be a stick to be a great dancer!

I don't know that well as I have only been dancing for four months, but I just wanted to say something about the guy's answer before me. I have that dance game, DDR. I was never overweight, but that game kept me from gaining the "freshmen 50" that apparently can happen in a dorm. It's awesome. Definitely great exercise once you get good. I sweat more than my mom does in her aerobics step class after just 15 minutes. But more in response to your question, there is no sort of diet that's required of a dancer. It's just important to be healthy, and extremely important to be a healthy weight for things like ballet. You can't do pointe if you are too heavy because you will put too much stress on your feet. As for the exercise, there are definitely some things you can try. You sound like me, always wanting to find some way to improve faster and more outside of class! I would say the two best for dancing (other than the obvious dance class, which gives you GREAT exercise) would be yoga and pilates. Yoga builds flexibility and the muscle to hold that flexibility. Pilates I haven't done, but it's great for building lean muscle. i.e. not super bulky, which is unattractive for a dancer. Also, you should take a ballet class on top of it if you really want to improve. With a good teacher, it automatically improves your posture, balance, core muscles, feet muscles, leg muscles and works your memory too (long combos, short instructions). It's the best exercise ever. Tones just about everything, stretches just about everything.

Well...I'm thirteen and I'm dancing very seriously right now with 1 of 7 dance teachers in the world who r licensed to teach professional ballet. She is the only one in America..so i belong to her studio but I'm also a dancer at the royal academy of dance in London A.R.A.D (advanced) dancing! You dont have to be on a diet to be a good dancer just eat rlly healthy! I eat a yogurt cup and apple for breakfast.. salad for lunch...and like chicken or other meat for dinner. Like what the person above said it is important not to get to heavy bc it will put too much stress on your toes. Sometimes when i see some of the other ballet students who are rlly thin(prtty much all of em r) i think im not gunna be able to become a professional cuz im not thin enough but that's not true! well all exercises are important but aerobics and Pilate's r the most important. If you dont have abbs then do these frequently..i dont yet hehe...but i can do 30 in a row....:
1. Sit down on the floor on your tailbone
2. Lift up your legs and put your arms apart
3. try to balance and bring your legs slowly to the floor and back up
It can be very strenuous if your out of shape
I also put my legs as far apart as they will go and keep my feet flexed..then try to get my chest to the floor while holding on to your ankles!!! Hope this helps!!!

As a dancer, I'm not on a diet. But as long as you eat healthy and don't put on to much weight, you'll do fine. The reason many dancers stay light, is because when you use pointe shoes-you want to keep as little weight as possible on your toes.

As for excirse, I run and do a thigh workout. You really don't need much arm strengh unless you do a lot of lifts. Abs you really don't need since it's basically all in the legs.

I don't think so. I've seen a lot of near obese people who were great dancers. But dancing is essentially aerobic exercise so as you do it you'll be getting the exercise to do it better. I'm reminded of the people who claimed to lose so much weight playing the playstation dance game.

No...Just try to keep on a balanced diet without sugared sodas and junk food. Main thing is to burn up the calories you eat. A calorie is a calorie no matter whether it came from carbos, fats or protein.

Ravenrobin - I don't believe a word of what you posted...I also don't believe you are 13

in case you do no longer recommendations donning epidermis tight clothing, the ballet instructions will provide help to drop some pounds. yet maximum ballerinas are tiny and in wonderful shape. If I have been you i could do an excellent sort of cardio to lose some physique fat. that's going to be easier to bounce once you're lighter.
