The fact that Ramayana vividly describes distinct species such as Vanaras who amazingly showed better abilities than humans in certain aspects during prehistoric Ramayana period lends strong support to the claim made "Adi Kavya" (the first composition on the planet) at the end of each sarga. Ramayana provides a convincing source of valuable scientific information to researchers on civilizations of not only ancient man but also of Rakshasas, Vanaras, Rukshyas and many other distinctly different species existed then including Jatayu and Sampati with some bird like features. However, on the places where important events narrated in Ramayana took place, for example, the site of Sita's abduction by Rakshasa King Ravan certain ambiguities still remain in the minds of people. The site of Sita's abduction is confirmed in this research article based on original Ramayana composed by Sage Valmiki. The references are made from Shrimad Valmikiya Ramayan published by Geeta Press in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. The vivid descriptions of the places made in Ramayana strongly suggest Parnashala (the hut where Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshman lived), the place of abduction might have been somewhere close to (i) Godavary river, (ii) Panchavati near a hill (iii) and Nasik in the State of Maharashtra.

Ambiguities

Regarding the site of Sita's abduction by Rakshasa King Ravan is not totally free from ambiguities. People in the State of Andhra Pradesh believe Parnashala, a place close to Bhadrachalam (17.40 N 80.56 E), famous pilgrim town situated on the banks of river Godavary was the site of abduction. In 1978 when I visited Bhadrachalam along with my family members, relatives, and friends, locals have shown a tree where Sita was believed to have been abducted.

PARNASHALA :

Though not this famous shrine Bhadrachalam stands for the significance of Ramayana Era , the coherent hill place is existed in Dhandakaranya of Ramanayana period , where Rama had spent his vanavasa . During vanavasa Rama with his concert Sita , Brother Laxmana had constructed a hermitage at Parnashala ,that sacred place is situated near Bhadrachalam about 25 Kms . The picturesque display of some scenes of vanavasa could be seen at Parnashala . The foot prints of Sita devi and Mosaic of Surpanaka in the guise of golden deer and Ravana in the guise of Sanyasi for Bhikshatana and the vicinity of the temple - Sita Vaagu , where she had bathed and collected the turmeric and Kunkum from near by stones and the marks of her saree on the rock near Sita Vaagu are the visiting places for the piligrims . As Ravana kidnapped Sita, the diety at Parnashala is called Sokarama. The tracks of the chariot of Ravana while kidnapping sita is seen on the mountain on the other side of the river bank at Parnashala temple. This stands for the mythological significance of the history.

JATTAYU PAAKA ( YETAPAKA) :

This Place is situated from 2Kms away from Bhadrachalam. According to Mythological story the bird Jattayuvu , a devotee of Rama had obstructed Ravana while he was proceeding on the chariot after kidnapping Sita. In the fearsful battle between Ravana and Jataayuvu , heavily injured bird had waited at this place in search of Sita. And a wing of this bird fell at Rekhapalli ,about 55 Kms from here, in V.R. Puram Mandal.

DUMMUGUDEM :

Here Rama is called the Atmarama. The story reveals that Rama killed 14000 demons headed by Kharadeoshana. As the village was said to be built upon the ashes of these demons, the place is named after as Dummugudem. http://www.bhadrachalarama.org/visiting.php

Bhadrachalam and Vijayanagara are sites said to have been closely associated with the Ramayana. Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are said to have stayed at Parnasala, 35 km away from Bhadrachalam. Rama is said to have crossed the river Godavari on his way to Sri Lanka to rescue Sita, at the spot where the Bhadrachalam temple stands, on the northern bank of the river. http://www.templenet.com/Andhra/bhadra.html

Lepakshi: Lepakshi is a religious center 480 km from Hyderabad. It is easily accessible from Tirupati. Lepakshi is famous for the Veerabhadra temple built in Vijayanagar style. The huge Nagalingam standing on a granite block shrouded by a seven headed serpent carved out of rock and the monolithic Nandi(4.5m x 8.23m) carved in a single rock are attractions for devotees and tourists. http://www.indtravel.com/andhra/andra_places1.html

IMPORTANT There are many myths told about how Lepakshi came to be built. One associated with the Ramayana believes that this is where Lord Rama encountered the hurt Jatayu, a character who gives valuable information about the location of his kidnapped wife Sita. Rama is believed to have said, “ Get up, bird.” That translated

Panchavati
Northern part of Nashik is known as Panchavati as River Godavari flows. It is believed that Lord Shri Ram and Sita along with Lakshman (also spelt as Laxman) stayed at Panchavati for some time. Thus Panchavati gained lot of importance. There are five Banyan ('Vad') trees and hence the area is called Panchavati.
