Tell them to give you a plant that only you will care for. If it's still alive after 6 months, they should let you have a pet. This is a fair challenge, although plants don't require as much care as pets do generally. Just make sure you water the plant enough but not too often (check growing guide for the plant) and that you put it in the right amount of sunshine. Many plants die in direct sunlight under a window, so somewhere near the window, but not under it would be best.
Oh and try pokon or something like plant food once a week. Helps a lot too.
Good luck!

First of all try to get Mom and Dad interested in pets. The part about them thinking your irresponsible is probably just a cover up because they may not like pets. Than, start out slowly with pets. If you have any neighbors that have pets see if you could dog sit at their house or at yours to prove to them (your parents) that you CAN handle the responsibility of a pet!
GOOD LUCK!!
PS Don't bring up the pet subject too often or your parents will get annoyed and the answer will defiinitly be a NO!

What are you doing to prove you are responsible? Do you without being told, do chores willingly, keep your room clean, do your own laundry, get off to school on time, do your homework, etc.? If so, then I'd say you are acting responsibly.
There may be another issue. Do your parents feel that they are finacially able to afford a pet? Bear in mind there is the on-going expense of food, bedding, vet bills, etc. not just the initial cost when getting a pet.

I know from experience that whining doesn't work. You could try to make a presentation about all the pros of having rats for pets. You said you've been cleaner lately. Have you tried pointing this out to your parents? Or if you want to play dirty, wait until it's close to your birthday. Don't ask for allot of things then when it comes around pull the "I don't ask for allot" card. Good luck convincing your parents. n_n

think differently there may be a different reason
i love pets ans one of my dreams is to have lots of pets
the problem i am married to a wife who doesn't share the dream
we had fish for 20 years until she gave the tank away with the fish in it
we had a bird 13 years she didn't like the mess and was constantly trying to give it away
we got a cat it shed dogs dig up the yard the turtle had to stay out side it hibernated last year and i haven't seen it since
my wife does love pets if we could find one that isn't a rodent or messy or a reptile she might g for t however if we get one and fall in love with it and she decides to give it away it hurts to lose a loved pet so i don't want a pet rite now

It will take time for them to come around. Having a pet is a huge responsiblity. Your parents want to make sure you can handle it. I know what I'm saying 'cuz I'm a mother my self. Try doing your chores without being asked over time. I'm sure you'll get your pet. Try to ask for something small at first like a fish. A Betta would be the best 'cuz they are not easy to kill.

How old are you? Pets are a huge responsiblity. Maybe your parents think they will have to take care of it and thats why they won't let you get it! Show more responsibility around the house! Is your room clean without them having to tell you? If you show improvement, maybe they will change their minds!

take this from a pet owner with 3 dogs. don't try to be noticed. they will just think you are sucking up to them. and also, see if you can go to the pound or the pet shop to see if you can find your dream dog. after that ask the person in charge of the place to tell you about how much it costs to take care of it. if you are going to the pound, you can see if there is a dog that is already house-broken and depending on the pound, you may be able to take a dog in for a couple of weeks just to find out what it is like to be a dog owner.

Call there bluff, Ask them what do I have to do to prove that I am responsible enough to have a pet. Then it's up to you to do what they ask. Wait a month and then check back with them and ask Have I lived up to what you have asked me to do. Be sure and write down what they asked you to do so they can't change the requirement
