It's pretty sad to see that most of the answers to this question are based on cultural comparision and religious fundamentals.
Indian culture is basically far away from those things. Sikhism, buddhism, etc. were mere fundamentals based on the Indian culture. for example, Lord buddha didn't ever preach buddhism in his life. What he preached was about salvation... Moksha, and the ways to attain it. Moksha being a derivative of Indian culture clearly suggests that Buddha tried to prepare a perfect recipe out of the essence of Indian culture. However his followers later were labelled as buddhists by the whole world. We created the rift, leading to the fact aclaimed now that buddhism is a separate religion.
Indian culture is the only culture that teaches you to respect each and every creation of the almighty - living or non-living. Indian culture is the only culture in the world that never describes about following a particular God but following few basic ethics which are actually helpful in living a satisfied, harmonic, dignified, healthy hygenic life. No other culture covers as many aspects as the Indian culture. Ayurveda, Yoga, Meditation, etc. are just few examples. A person studying the Vedas thoroughly ands understanding the concepts of vedas can easily make out the difference in what is being followed by the Indians today and the actual ethical sets described in Vedas.
The culture cannot be defined in few words. It took four Vedas, few Upoanishads, and the whole of geetha to lay out the structure of the culture.
To know more about the culture, please mail me. I would be glad to assist you...

There is not just one Indian culture. That's sort of like trying to explain European culture or American culture.
There are Hindus, there are Sikhs, there are Muslims, there are christians, there are northern Indians, there are those that live along the coasts. New Delhi's culture is very different from Mumbai. India has a huge middle class that is light years away from its impoverished populations.

The culture of India was moulded throughout various eras of history, all the while absorbing customs, traditions and ideas from both invaders and immigrants. Many cultural practices, languages, customs and monuments are examples of this co-mingling over centuries.
In modern India there is cultural and religious diversity throughout the country. This has been influenced by the various regions of India, namely South, North, and North-East, have their own distinct identities and almost every state has carved out its own cultural niche. In spite of this unique cultural diversity, the whole country is bound as a civilization due to its common history, thereby preserving the national identity.
India was the birth place of religious systems such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism, which have a strong influence not only over India, but also the whole world. Following the Islamic invasions and the subsequent foreign domination from the tenth century onwards, the culture of India was heavily influenced by Persian, Arabic and Turkic cultures. In turn, the various religions and the multihued traditions of India have influenced South East Asia and other parts of the world. Mark Twain wrote, India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. Our most valuable and most astrictive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!

Indian culture is ancient. One striking difference between Indian culture with other cultures is the presence and acceptance of differing opinions. Indian culture does not limit itself to certain number of scriptures, philosophies or codes of conducts. Contrarily, it suggests to respect the difference of opinion.

dear zarina,
if u really wanna know of indian culture then u should come to our country, to see our diverse culture and beauty. you must have heard many things about our country but to really know our country u need to see is not cities but our villages, thats where our countries heart is. we have many religions in our country that is why our country is given the phrase "unity in diversity" its unique and ethinic. our culture is colourfull, we envolope outdoor ideologies, we are always ready to embrace new religion, its our courage and detemination to face the world thats helped us to be so tolerable and most especially the ability to move on with life after a major crisis with a happy, smiling face believe me i speak this from experience and last but not the least its our ambience and helpful nature of our people. these many words do not entirely give you the idea of our nations culture but sure it gives us an outline on it. but to truly learn and understand our culture u need to experience it.
bye and cheers!
