You should try the board game thud. The outcome is by no means certain. Like all battles the outcome depends on many things, number of dwarfs related to number of trolls. Strategic position on battlefield, strategy of each commander and intelligence of their troops. No easy outcome. Trolls are strong and hard, dwarfs are fast and crafty. Oh hard task. Koom valley ended with something that I would call a reconciliation. If there are enough the dwarfs will win, brains over brawn, but if there are not the trolls will, brains can only go so far against a powerfully adversary. Ok 4 Trolls v 4 dwarfs, both sides surprised by the meeting on level ground, trolls win. 12 dwarfs meet 4 trolls again no advantages in terrain or element of surprise, dwarfs win.

Let's go for the classic Dungeons & Dragons dwarves and trolls for my entry. First, the dwarves. Notable members of this race include Thorin Oakenshield, Gimli, Bruenor Battlehammer, Thibbledorf Pwent, Nain, etc. just to name a few. They have the skills to produce mithril armor of surpassing quality, which can be enchanted by the dwarven gods acting thru a dwarven cleric to provide magical armor of varying effects and bonuses. As a race they have the potential to produce warriors, clerics, rogues, and very rarely, mages. Their preferred weapons are hammers and axes, which maximize the benefits of their great stamina and strength, and downplay the perceived height disadvantage. Such weapons can also be highly magical, perhaps enchanted to never need sharpening, to flame on command, to cast light in a 30' circle, etc. Think of the mighty Aegis-fang, hammer of Wulfgar, that teleported back to its owner after being thrown at an enemy and was so mighty it could blast demons back to the Abyss. Dwarves are, in a nutshell, armored tanks on the battlefield. Add in the battleragers - berserking dwarves armored in spiked, serrated, razor-edged armor- who literally throw themselves on enemies and shake, twist, and spasm until their enemy dies from massive bloodloss, and you have a race made for war.
Second, the trolls. As a general rule in most fantasy milieu, trolls are not smart. The D&D troll stands nine feet tall, is covered in greenish gray skin, has long, sharp claws, and is easily distinguished by a thick thatch of black, wiry hair over its scalp. They wear no clothing, make no armor, and use no weapons save for an occasional club - their claws and teeth are all the weapons they need. They do have one horrifying ability though, regeneration. No matter how much you beat on a troll, dismember him, or even flatten him outright, the largest remaining piece of troll - or his head if you've decapitated him - will eventually regrow into a full troll. Usually the rest of the pieces die, but there are reports of magically mutated trolls that regenerate from all pieces in a form of asexual reproduction. If you dismember this type of troll, separating it into six pieces, you will soon be facing six trolls! The bane of any troll, however, is fire or acid. Either one damages and cauterizes a troll's flesh so that regeneration is not possible. If we are talking Tolkien trolls, then they are a little smarter, but have the weakness of turning to stone in the sunlight - so the battle would take place at night, but that's ok - dwarves have infravision and can see in the dark.
So, the setting is an isolated mountain pass, and a band of dwarves is marching thru the pass when they discover that a "family" of trolls has taken up residence there, ambushing and murdering travelers using the pass. The dwarves would probably be aware of the trolls first, as any dwarven band worth its salt would be employing scouts in order to spot any ambushes or wandering monsters. The trolls, if all together, are probably feasting on the remains of some hapless traveler when the dwarves pile into the valley in teams of two - hammer and axe - and charge into the trolls, who roar and extend their claws, slicing down at the dwarves. The dwarves don't really care, accepting the minor hits and using their shields to turn aside major hits, as they put one of their oldest strategies into play; humming a well-timed tune they coordinate their attacks to the music and the teams target a kneecap on each troll. Swinging at the same time they smash a hammer into the front of the kneecap while an axe chops into the rear of the knee, severing the limb clean, and down goes the troll. Moving quickly they sever the trolls claws and bash in its face, and then move onto the next, leaving the quivering troll behind - but not alone. Bringing up the rear is either a dwarven cleric with the Call Flame spell, a dwarven warrior with a torch or magically flaming weapon, or simply one of the scouts with a torch and bottles of oil. Soon the trolls are smoldering heaps of ash and charred bone, and the dwarves are binding minor wounds and drinking Potions of Healing, if they have them.
Why do the dwarves win so easily? Because of knowledge of their foe, advance planning, superior weapons and armor, and reach. A nine foot troll may have an arm length of just over four feet, but generally has to stoop a bit to strike a four and a half foot dwarf, who has no such disadvantage, and who can strike the troll from weapons range and rely on his armor to absorb the damage. With their lifespans of hundreds of years the dwarves easily have experience fighting such foes, and even if somehow taken by surprise would know what to do.
Winner: Dwarves.

Trolls are generally considered a bit cumbersome in movement, in spite of their power.
In theory, the dwarves could win using quick hit and runs. If they were smart and time was on their side, the dwarves could would just need to fight and last till sunrise - then the trolls would simple turn to stone, ie dwarves win.

Gotta be the Dwarves - just think of Gimli in LOTR, swinging his axe "41 (splat) 42 (crunch) 43 (slash) 44 (smash)"
Troll are also SO STUPID they have no idea about stratagy or getting out of the way.

In a conflict with all their forces, Sauron would weigh down Voldemort. keep in mind, Sauron additionally has people, wargs, Uruk-hais, the 9 Bewitched Kings, and the White Wizard Saruman as contributors of his military. In a one-on-one combat, Sauron nonetheless would win, as Voldemort continues to be a human. sure, his skill is extremely solid, yet his expertise are limited whilst in comparison with what Sauron replace into able to do (even whilst he replace into in basic terms interior the kind of an eye fixed).
