Last night I was on my desktop and it was working fine... after that I decided to turn the computer off and go to bed... so I did.. Then a little bit later I decided that I want to check something... I turned on the computer and its running... then the logo "COMPAQ" came on and then the screen went blank.. I tried to restart it over and over again but it didnt work.. the last time I just turned it on and let it sit..so then the screen is still blank it a msg came up and it says

" Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
/system32.hal.dl.
please reinstall a copy of the above file.""

uh oh what do I do?? could my computer gotten sick?? a possible virus??
I didnt uninstall anything..

You probably got infected by a virus which delete a system file or you just mistakenly deleted it by yourself.
But one thing is certain. You operating system is corrupted.

I am affraid the only way go go about it (if you are not an advanced computer user is to reinstall the Operating System)

or better still, if you are using Windows XP, you can perform a repair. It is just like a fresh installation. the only difference is taht it will keep all your existing files.

Do you have the Windows restore CD that came with the computer? You need to do a repair install.

push f11 it shud take u to the reformat section follow its instructions to a tigue
