You should make a fantasy with all kinds of creatures, trolls, dwarfs, elves, giant trees, giants, orcs, imps, demons, DRAGONS, and other creatures being introduced after your introduction.
But the introduction should be romantic and sad, as you wanted i thought, with a man who gets dumped and ends up running away from all humans and finds a magical stretch of mountains were all of the creatures i mentioned in the first paragraph, take their place.
Good Luck writing ur novel!!!!!!!!! And tell me the name of it when its done, i will read it to see ur luck.

But, you really aren't writing a novel, you're in the preliminary stages, and thinking way ahead of yourself.
First thing's first, think of a story, any story, and begin to write it. I understand that you're likely not going to write the book like you wrote your question, so ignore anyone that chews you out on that.
Everyone wants to be successful, but life's not about striking gold at everything we do, you need to take babysteps. Take it one at a time, start by coming up with a plot. What do you like to read? Perhaps your story can be that genre. You need to make it original, and most importantly, make it something that others will find interesting.

Buy a little notebook that you can take with you. The writing muse can strike you anywhere and then you can just write down a few notes.
Think about something, a situation, that really moved you. Anything. Then go from there. Build a story around it. Beginning, middle, an ending.
Or write it as a short story first. Then expand on it.

I have only one suggestion. A story with forgiveness at it's heart, especially when someone has done something so horrible that no one on earth could forgive them..... but one person does, and risks everything for it, but their selfless act changes the reader's viewpoint.... and the main character falls in love with the person, and well you can take it from there but if you want to use it, I think it would work.... forgiveness no matter what is the last idea left on earth that no one is ready to practice fully.

If you're interested in doing fantasy, check out a website called Elfwood. It's devoted to fantasy and science fiction artists and writers and it's a good place to get peer critiques. http://www.elfwood.com is the URL.

Take some writing classes and get into a writers circle where you read each other's work and critic each other. It will help motivate you to write and improve your writing.
