Carbon monoxide is a very dangerous gas. Get a CO2 detector is good because things could go wrong . One other thing is the detectors use a chemical cell which will last about 3 years. Be careful about buying the sensors that they have on sail . They are possible over 1 year old.

There are several sites in the home that could potentially be a source of carbon monoxide such as a clogged lint filter, improperly vented gas dryer, improperly vented gas stove, blockage in the chimney or fireplace, and an improperly vented furnace or water heater. You wouldn't know it until you started to get chronic headaches or worse, succumbed to the odorless, colorless, and tasteless fumes.

Since you use gas for heating, there is the possibility of carbon monoxide being produced, It is best then to install a carbon monoxide detector just to be sure.

Sure, the gas heater is a concern. Having a CO detector in addition to smoke detectors is a good idea.

You not got nothing to worry much about as long as you have the heater checked and you dont run the cars in the garage with the door closed.
