First of all where is your tank in the house it needs to close to a light source to create algae..because that's what they live on..if you are not getting any algea in your tank then you don't need an algea eater..if you are getting algea and they are still dying i'm pretty sure it's because the fish you have in with them are urinating too much and your filter system can't keep up.The amonia created by the urine will kill a placostamus and it won't take long..because the algea absorbs it..if you see the algea is more on the yellow side than green that means you have to much amonia in your tank and also look at the chemicals you use to treat the water when you put fresh stuff in...if you don't treat your water before putting it in the tank ..fluoride and chloride they put in our tap water is not good ...one way of saving money on chemicals is to fill a big jug of water and let it sit out for 24 hours..it will become nutral and all the fluoride and chloride will be gone..and remember the rule one fish for every three gallons of water in a tank.

There are diffent types of algae eaters. Maybe ask the store which one is best for the size of you aquarium and the type of fish you have (tropical, large, small, ect.).

If you don't have a lot of fish producing a lot of waste the algae eater will starve.

Pleco's improve to approximately sixteen inches and don't improve to the size of their enviroment. you will discover fairly smaller varieties yet all are many times too huge for a 10g tank. you should aim to get Dwarf Oto's yet they require an extraordinarily mature tank and in lots of instances die via puppy keep situations. even nonetheless whether you keep them alive they are going to consume a techniques much less algae then you quite'll think of. No algae eater eats all varieties of algae nor will they consume basically algae. maximum human beings feed their plecos and different such scavengers vegetables to complement what they do graze. the main effectual algae cleansing critter is you. Algae desires 2 issues to enhance, nutrition and gentle-weight. as long as you do no longer over feed your fish and basically turn your lights directly to view your fish you're able to be completely superb. you nevertheless might get some algae, even nonetheless it should not be something fairly of algae scrubbing pad won't be able to guard. yet another tactic is to characteristic stay plant life. stay plant life will soak up a similar nutrition and gentle-weight and customarily out compete the algae. in case you nevertheless choose a scavenger that deals with the occasional algae you could probable escape with a single secret snail or a small group of pink cherry or ghost shrimp. they're going to generally consume the algae bits they like alongside with a share of fish nutrition yet will require only a splash scavenger nutrition on the facet too. even nonetheless till you quite need some extra critters i would not advise including extra animals. you're rather close to to approximately what number fish you're able to have now and including extra animals will only make any means algae subject worse as properly to the different problems with overstocking. it rather is even earlier you communicate that "algae eaters" are rather scavengers and convey so lots extra waste then different comparable length animals.

try a different bottem feeder. cory catfish, snail, if your tank is new or your a beginer you just have to have practice. are you giving them algea tablets? because that is what they eat along with the algea in the tank, but that isn't enough nutrients. it's spelled PLECOSTOMOUS, not trying to be rude but just for futer references. some people nick name them pleco.
