i have noticed a woman I am working with keeps mimicking things i do. she is educated and in her late 20's. for examples

1 when I get a clean hair cut, within the next few days i see she has done her hair in ways I never seen her do before.

2 when i start to wear certain type of clothing (ie checkered) - i notice in the new few days she wears checkered clothing which i never seen her wear

3 i once told her unique people makes me tick, since then she will go out of her way to show me she does unique things (uses the microwave to heat her coffee when one hot water tap is broken, when one would usually use the other taps).

These actions led me to think perhaps she would like to talk - but when I do she tells me she she is busy and already has a partner. I'm not sure where the partner thing came from, but fair enough, i decide to leave her alone but she keeps greeting me and mimicking me and following me at work.

i'm a little confused by this persons actions.

what a troubling situation. please speak with your boss about this. she is stalking you in the workplace. that's harrassment and against the law.
on a closer level, i don't like her use of the word partner. therefore, i'd sever all entanglements with her. she doesn't seem to have both oars in the water. consequently, you're not dealing with the average co-worker.
be careful. start keeping a written log of what is going on.

She must admire your taste. Maybe she thinks your an inspiration at work and wants to play Single White Female. Maybe she thinks that if she mimics what you do, she'll have the respect and life that you have. She might not have a sense of fashion and loves yours. Whatever it is, don't get too close, unless that's the type of person you are attracted to

I think she sounds like a nice person looking for a friend, since she says she already has a partner.

Worst case scenario: she has an issue or two with her own identity, and mimics others because of that.

So she started having a crush on you....then she noticed that you started to notice and she got a little embarrassed and didn't want to look desperate, right-so then she makes up this partner thing up (like Jan Brady and George Glass) you follow me? And now you'll really think she's in her right mind and not really day-dreaming of your naked-buttocks all day long....trust me, in about a month she'll break up with George Glass and hope that you'll come begging for it!!!!!

I believe she is intimidated by you and in ah.She doesn't feel by being who she is she can get some one who is respectable.
She wants you but doesn't feel she deserves you.Because she doesn't like her self much They don't give you a book on how to be you're self in school.
Don't be confused she is the one who is!
She doesn't love her partner and simply because she doesn't love her self. She is smart enough to know that you are quality person, but not smart enough to know that she is one as well.and if you where in her partner shoes she would probably look to mimic some one else to find that attention that she can't give her self.

Open your eyes! This woman is in love with you. She is seeking (and getting) a reaction from you, but you are too blind to smell the romance in the air.

If you're interested, you know what to do ....

She is obviously using you as a "spare tire" in case her other relationship goes flat.

Give her some space. Maybe she's trying to figure herself out.
