Splinter religions that do not follow Islam but have created a separate religion much like Episcopals Who Grew out of strict roman Catholic traditions are not followers of Mohamed . They are something else entirely.

If you are not following your faith then what have you in the way of faith in the first place . If you change your religion then you are not following it.

So Islam has been at war with christians for over a thousand years and Bush is the latest Christian to declare war on Islam .

I say this because all members of Islam are ordered to assist in defeating the infidels which is any non Islamic follower .
It may not call for directly beheading your enemy but you must support and aide those who do.

This means it is impossible for any follower of Islamic teaching to be a moderate.

Its like an apple calling itself an orange . It still knows its an apple but you now think you have an orange . This is all part of the battle for converting and killing all infidels .

At least 98% of Muslims are moderate. Also, at least 90% of Muslims are not aware of the real teachings of prophet Muhammed to promote war. Very honestly, most Muslim countries are among the safest and most peacful countries you can ever live in. Just try to avoid talking about religion.

There is such a religion--it's univeral sufism. Sufis can be Islamic, but Univeral Sufism, which came to the West in about 1910, is not Islamic. It has several websites.

I know lots of Muslim moderates. As I am not familiar with Islam, I cannot comment on whether they are devout.

Some of them drink alcohol, some of them do not.

None of them eats pork.

None of them appears to pray 5 times a day (not that I have seen).

Some of them are married to other Muslims; some are married to followers of other religions or non-religious people.

Some of them fast during Ramadan; some of them do not. All of them celebrate Eid.

None of them (to my knowledge) have ever visited Mecca.

I know more about Christianity and Judaism. Now, I know Jews who eat pork, who only set foot in a synagogue for weddings, funerals and bar/bat mitzvahs. Very few have ever been to Jerusalem. They celebrate Passover and other major Jewish holidays. Plenty of them are married to non-Jews.

I know Christians who dance (an apparent no-no) and only go to church for weddings, funerals and christenings. I do not know any Christians who fast during Lent, but plenty who celebrate Hallowe'en. Plenty of them are married to non-Christians.

So what qualifies a person as "faithful"? I think it has more to do with their personal faith than how many times they pray in public, what they eat or when they eat it and whether or not they marry people of their own faith.
