Whether it be college football or basketball the media will post more positive stories about the Big ten/Pac ten than any other conference. Why? Example:Ohio State

Because the Big 10 and Pac 10 are in great TV Markets. The Pacific Coast and Mid West have huge middle class consumers, who sponsors love to get at. The Networks all want the sponsors money. The best team could be Jefferson Community College, but the world would never know because they don't have a regional or national following. Its not about truth but about ratings.

for the media it is all about story lines and people. When you specifically talk about Ohio State you have the number one team in the land all year with one of the most exciting recievers in the game, the Heisman trophy winner, and the best linebacker in the nation. It makes for a good story and the more the media puts OSU highlights on the more likely you are to see those guys and see an amazing play.
As far as basketball goes there were two story lines going into the year. Number one was can Florida Repeat as national champs?, and also the year of the freshmen, headlined by none other than Greg Oden and the "Thad five". So people want to see the guy that is labeled as the next great basketball center already being compared to the likes of Shaq and Wilt. So its natural. Also don't forget that Wisconsin is in the top five too making the Big Ten the only conference with two teams in the top five.
When you talk about the Pac-10 you're talking about the biggest sports market in the nation. You are talking about the second biggest area for media in the nation next to New York which isn't really known for college athletics, so if UCLA, and USC and all the teams that play those two are constantly on the air then they get more viewers from the most populated state in the nation (CA).
Hope that helps.

in the last 10 years one national champion has come from the
big ten in basketball and that was Michigan state in 2000. in 1997
Arizona , from the PAC 10 won it all in basketball as well. in football Ohio state has won it twice , while Michigan won it once in the last ten. southern cal won it once.otherwise in football its southern schools. acc and big east schools in basketball. i think
the bias is to feed the readership. the readership feeds the
commercials which in turn sells advertising, which in turn made
Ohio state an 8 point favorite over Florida this year. also made
southern cal a touchdown favorite over Texas last year. just read
between the lines and look for a good blog on your favorite
teams. good luck

The Big Ten has lots of good b-ball teams like OSU and MSU and even IU because one of the big ten or pac 10 might win the ncaa national championship

"example Ohio State"
Bad example bro. I mean in football they were at the top all year and in hoops they are as well.

Realistically though, I think they are the power conferences along with the SEC. They are full of great programs. Ecspecially in football.
