The production of Food and Medicine is under a direct threat if oil jumped due to Iranian or Iraqi or any other true threat to it's free flow throughout the worlds free markets. Cheap oil assures cheap prices and surpluses of food and Medicine which is the main Staple of survival for most of the worlds Poor. Alternative fuels are an option but would ensure the death of a Billion poor before it was an efficiant replacement. The wars civil, economisc and International would kill untold millions. Free market economies would be overthrown by starving masses a super war would ensue. The US and it's Allies are trying to be proactive and ensure stabilization. It is however not in the interest of many rogue nations and many politicos bent on the destruction of the west. make a mental list of how you would cope if oil was at $300 per barrel. Would you call for WAR then?

Please feel free to hand over your car, turn off your heat, stop working, never light a fire, eat uncooked food, wipe yourself with leaves and do not give your children medicine.

No, it would be chaotic if it all just ran out at once. Eventually you might get your wish though. What we really need to happen is for the government and oil companies to wake up and realize they need to start looking into alternative fuels before this happens. There is no reason why an oil company couldnt invest in its own research so that they would be able to transition to a new market when oil supplies dry up. They are just short sighted.

I wish that too, but not to end the fight and have peace, but to promote the fight. I believe that we should halt our use of oil and begin the usage of more energy and economical efficient modes of power. There are solar and wind farms that produce a massive amount of electricity and produce hardly any pollution. And once we got rid of oil, the production of hydrogen technolgy would get an additional spin. We would be able to produce our own, non-polluting energy! How cool is that!?

Yes it was really great in those times before oil ruined the planet, particularly for ordinary folk.
You might survive birth if you were lucky.
Having done that you just might live to the grand old age of thirty.
There were some really lovely diseases rampant too, TB,Smallpox, Cholera, Typhoid.
It was also wonderful struggling to find enough to eat and clothe oneself.
Oh! and the health service was dead cheap because there wasn't one.

Not long now.
oil companies have lied 4 years about reserves.
new discoveries take more & more refining.
i reckon there's less than 5 years left.

all 4 the want of an alternative, eh?
which r piloted regularly, but with rich oil companies intent on a monopoly, they suppress the data or bully them out of the market!

Yeah, we could have some peace and quiet trying to figure out how to get food to the millions of people living in London, Paris, NYC, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, etc. What a blast that would be.

There's another 100 years worth of oil in the Alberta tar sands. They're just getting started up there.

forget it they'll just find some other synthetic in the place of oil that'll replace oil or it might even be better. If you ever noticed even today they have synthetic oils for lubrication look at Wd 40 for instance. It's already there and in place

Oil is fantastic stuff, useful in cooking, in the body, in burgers. Its good for preventing rust and making things slippery. Where would we be without oil. The good thing is, it will never run out there will always be sunflowers, rape seed and other natural forms of oil.

Ou oil runs out every month and then my oil burner gets screwed up and I have to get an engineer to de-clog the system. Believe me, you don't want to run out of oil.
