An independent report commissioned by the United Nations compares Israel's actions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to apartheid in South Africa — charges that have drawn angry rebukes from Israel.

Let's see...first, it's not a "story", it's a fact that Israel is attempting to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians from their homeland. Examples:

- Palestinians can be detained if they don't have ID cards in their own country (and are often detained as a tactic of harassment, even when they do have proper documentation)

- the Palestinians are forced to live behind walls in abject poverty, subjected to hit-and-run attacks by the government with no recourse for justice, and silence by the international media when it is reported

- starvation and isolation are used to harass and kill people; cutting off water, medical supplies, preventing charities like the Medecins Sans Frontieres, the Red Cross and Red Crescent from operating, etc.

- land is stolen from the inhabitants who are forced into refugee camps while the occupying forces allow squatters and thieves to live on land owned by generations of people

- homes are systematically destroyed by bulldozers without warning, and those who resist are shot and murdered as a matter of policy

Comparing Israel's actions to South Africa's Apartheid is being generous. What Israel does to the Palestinians is closer to how the Nazis treated the jews in the Lodz Ghetto.

I am certainly no expert on the Israel-Palestinian conflict. I just did read Jimmy Carter's book, "Peace not Apartheid" and he was pretty critical of the Israeli's. He was pretty convincing. If somebody out there has a suggestion for a book that offers a strong counterpoint, I would love to know.

Do you know, I am so sick of hearing about apartheid. It's over and the country is now under black rule like everybody wanted and it's being ruined by greedy politicians and thousands of people still get murdered but hey, they are white so I suppose people think that's payback for apartheid. Israel and Palistyne have been at war for thousands of years, it's a bit worse that apartheid don't you think

Israeli need our help No one could NOT change his mind unless he has no mind. Occupying other people by force is losing policy in the past and now and has no future.
