If you are interested in biology, you should just major in it. However, many competitive biology programs in university are too competitive for you to study well and feel good about yourself. If you want to study biology, look for a small to medium sized university. You will be able to enjoy your university life much better, and after you complete your biology degree (3-4 yrs) you may want to apply to professional schools such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, dentistry, or even medical school. In Ontario, Canada, you can even get into pharmacy just after first year of university. Of course, you have to take an exam and an interview to get in. You may also want to consider nursing; it is a high-compensation job in health care field.

If you don't want to major in biology, you could major in something else, but take basic science course such as biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and possibly physiology. I once thought of majoring in history, but ended up majoring and later specializing in physiology to prepare for med school. So, you could take that path and still be a healthcare professional. It is no problem. One of my friend majored in sociology and then went on to med school, so you can do that.

Majoring in biology does not help you to get good jobs; you can become a research assistant or become lab worker in hospital labs, but that is about it. If you are thinking of doing Ph.D. then you need biology to keep studying in that field, but it will not get you a good job. If you do good in chemistry and organic chemistry, you can get good jobs in pharmaceutical companies.

Your minor in anything should be something you are interested in or will benefit your major. Some will pick education as a minor so they could teach RT sometime. Others will pick business or management so they can be an RT manager sometime. Still others will do marketing or sales to they can be drug reps or equipment reps.

It's up to you however If the science is interesting to you, then go for it. Good luck.
