Hi, I do not have a fear of flying as such, I have a fear of long flights. I think its a bit like clostrophobia, being in an enclosed space for a long time. I am flying to Florida which is obvously a long flight.

Is there anything anyone can suggest for me to take or do to stop or decrease my fear of long flights?

Thanks

I take a 10 hour trip from Germany to Denver every year with my kids and back every year.

To entertain yourself:
- Bring along a few book, magazines, puzzles (such as crosswords or Sodoku if you like those).
-Watch the in flight movie(s)
-Sleep
- Bring along an iPod, MP3 player, or CD player to listen to music.
- A laptop is good to have as you can play games on it, connect to the internet, and get any work done that you may have.
- Try talking to the people next to you. Sometime you will meet some really interesting people, and forge friendships.

Well let me add my long flight in here too. San Francisco to Taiwan at 14 hours non-stop or JFK to Bangkok at 17 hours is long. IF you feel claustrophobic, ask your doctor for a mild sleeping pill or tranquilizer then take only half of it since you want to wake up when you get to Florida. Take along your laptop or better yet a good book!

I am flying from Heathrow to Johannesburg S-Africa, now that is boring. I feel the same way, when i start feeling claustophobic i open the air vent and that makes me feel better. I sit and watch people i cannot read or watch movies on a plane. Chat the person next to you to death, makes you feel better and they cannot wait to get off the plane. Just joking, open airvent feeling the cool air on your face , helps a bit.:))

The feelings you are troubled by are caused by high levels of stress hormones. These hormones are supposed to be regulated unconsciously and automatically. When they are not, they rise high enough to cause anxiety, claustrophobia, and possibly panic.

You can correct this problem by following the step-by-step instruction in "SOAR: The Breakthrough Treatment for Fear of Flying."
