Obviously the answer should be yes. Not only in North-eastern states, but also in the vicinity of Himalayas because it provides a natural place for storing water during summer due to ice melting. If states have space crunch to build larger dams like Bhakra-Nangal, Mahanadhi etc., then small, micro, check dams could be built. In J&K a dam is being built near Doda which could store water for irrigation as well as to produce electricity. Although hydro-power dams could not be fully utilised through out a year, the water could be harnessed as long as it is available. Besides states like Assam suffer from floods in Brahmaputra. So constructing a big dam or small dams at certain intervals will help in saving water, preventing it from draining into sea. Such dams will help economically the local people.
