Each baby's schedule is different, but here was my son's(he wasn't a good napper and not typical). Around 4 months is when he started getting more predictable with naps. He would go down for his first nap sometime between 9 and 10am, he would sleep 45 min-1hr. Then go down for a second nap around 2pm and would sleep another 45min-1 hr....which is not long at all! They're suppose to be napping 1.5 - 2 hrs at a time. However, he went to bed early, like 5:30-6pm and would sleep very good at night. He also cut his morning nap out around 10 months, which is very early....they usually move to one nap around 18 months. He is now 20 months and takes one, 1 hour nap a day(my lunch break!!!)but goes to bed between 6:30-7 and is out all night.
One helpful hint, if you have a bad napper like I did, is to put him down at the very first hint of tired...the first yawn, rubbing of eyes, staring etc. Don't wait in order to keep him "on schedule" that just makes them overly-tired and then it's harder to get them to wind down at all! Also, don't listen to people who say, "just keep him up longer during the day so they'll sleep better at night." Totally has the opposite effect! Also, if your kid is a bad napper, don't be afraid to move the bedtime up...even if you think it's way too early and he'll never sleep the night (I put my son down as early as 5:30pm sometimes and he was fine!). I read every single sleep book out there and the only one that helped was, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" so I recommend reading that. Good luck!

This depends entirely on the baby. Most babies will give signs that they're ready for just one nap... either with their feeding or behavior when you lay them down for the morning nap. When they start acting like they don't need that morning nap, you can start easing them in to a single nap, which will probably settle into a mid-day nap.
As for the appropriate schedule... I know of no two mom's who do a "schedule" the exact same way. You need to develop a schedule that meets the needs of the baby while allowing you to take care of the daily tasks you need to do, as well. While the first six months of life are (mostly) all about the baby, by 1 year, you can work their activities/naps a bit to accommodate the schedule your entire family follows.

I have two children and this is my daily plan:
They are both in bed for 19:30 they both up at 07:30 the 1st child goes to school just started so he doesn't nap in the day my 2nd child has just turned two and if he's been busy after lunch he will have a nap from around 13:30 till 15:00, and still goes to bed at 19:30 till morning, sleep or no sleep for him.
when he was younger he still only had one nap in the day and again that was after lunch time 13:00 - 15:00, but i think that having a good routine for your child at night times is great anytime from 19:00 a young a child should go to bed and it gives a child a routine and you so you have time for yourself

It depends on the age of the child and every child is different.
My son is 14 months old, he wakes around 7:30-8:00 am, takes his first nap around 10:30 sleeps for 45 min. to an hour. Takes second nap at 3:00 pm sleeps for an hour and a half to 2 hours, goes to bed around 8:00-8:30 pm.

Your baby's naps and sleeping pattern can and will be different then everyone elses. With my 3 children, I have opted for a no-strict-schedule type of day plan :) We just roll with it and that way when unexpected things happen, which is ALL the time, my kids *schedule* doesn't get thrown outta wack!
Here's a typical day.....
3.5 & 5yo are in bed at 7:30ish and up at 6:30ish ...they no longer nap. They are both in there own beds and have been since 2-3years old.
1.5yo has been on "one" nap since about 12-25mo, give or take. He wakes around 7am, naps sometime between 12-3pm, back in bed about 8:30ish. I LOVE that he is in my bed with me :)
This is just what works for OUR family. My husband is a Baker thus sleeping weird hours of the day and night. We've had to adapt our family to his needs, for the most part anyways ;)
I think it's great to find someuseful tips in others advise, I hope you get a nice mix here.....although I often find ALOT of mainstream people comment on these boards.

my son started sleeping for only a few minutes during his morning nap around 12-14 months so i just stopped laying him down in the morning and now he takes a nap for a little over an hour at about 100, he gets up around 7 and goes to bed around 9 but every child is different take your cues from them.

My baby is 16 months and is now just getting out out of her morning nap...she goes down for her afternoon nap at 12:30 and sleeps for nearly 2 hours.
She goes to bed at 8:15 and gets up around 7am.
