Woah, that's a bit of a generalisation! However, some releigions, such as strict-Catholics, don't believe in contraception or abortion. The abortition belief is because they are pro-life and believe terminating even a really early pregnancy is killing a life (I can see their point, but if people aren't ready to be parents it may be best for the child). I'm not sure why they are against contraception, maybe because they see it as un-natural? I'm not sure! Other people just like big families!
Hope that's helped!

I beleive this stems back a long way
when they were totally outnumbered by their enemys
so their leaders tried to encourage them to pro-create and it got written into the law of that peoples
unfortunately most the the leaders of the past were of the religious type.
So it was laid out as though it was a religious obligation and after something has been scripture for a couple of hundred years, how do you go about changing it?

well some religions are basically all about having children (mormons have loads of kids). maybe it's something to do with their equivalent of the Bible or the Coran, maybe it says to have lots of babies in order to populate the Earth...I dunno, but it's certainly not that bad if they can look after them properly, because it makes up for the people who can't or don't want to have children.
But if you can't take care of them, don't have so many! That's what I say, and I think that's one of poorer countries biggest problems. they have too many kids and they just can't feed them. It's not always about religion though, some people just actually enjoy having 20 kids! Why? Beats me!

Because their preachers tell them to have as many children as possible.

This ensures that there is another generation of religious mutants born into the world to carry on believing in this primitive, superstitious nonsense!

they need to increase their population .. like here in the middle east, you can count the locals here, plenty of expats, so their government implies that they should have children to add to the population. they also give allowances to the families with more children. so the summary is...more children more allowances...(from the government....)
