Scooter fuel system?

Does anyone know what the little gadget that the fuel tube goes into and then another tube goes out from the gadget and goes into the carburator?

As above, it's hard to say without specifics but it sounds like the fuel filter. Best thing to do is buy a manual if one is available.

Fuel filter? Fuel cutoff switch? I can't see it, so I can't say for sure, but those are two possibilities.
