Alan Shearer was the ENGLAND captain before David Beckham. his last match as the captain was in the 2000 UEFA European Championship 1st round Group A match against ROMANIA on 20 June 2000 which ROMANIA won 3-2. it was also the 34th time he led out his team as the captain & his 63rd caps for ENGLAND which he later declare that he retires from international football after the 2000 UEFA European Championship final.
