I have really severe back pain and it comes and goes, I also help a disabled woman my mother inlaw She weighs close to 300 pounds and i lift her several times a day. Could this be the reason?

Yes, I would say that is the reason... I suggest you go see your doctor, it’s the best thing you can do for your health.

Chances are there .Massaging the back muscles by applying pressure will reduce the pain.Apply an icepack to the affected area. This will make the area numb and reduce the pain or apply a hot water bottle, heating pad or a warm compress to the painful area of the back .Sometimes alternating a warm compress and an icepack will reduce the pain faster. Yes; there are portable winches on wheels now for this. Keep the back straight and lift with the legs. Stretch your back often. Consider getting an electronic stimulator for pain.

Yes, I would definitely say your job is affecting your back.
I hope you're working out to strengthen your back between your lifting. Is this a new symptom? I would get a check-up with your doc. to make sure you didn't injure yourself.
You need to rest you back for your healing to take place.
This might be difficult with your job. But you have only one back, so be sure to protect it.
