AMD 2800 (1.6 GHz) is better than Intel Celeron D 2.66 GHz because of greater Cache memory.

The AMD Athlon is faster. It does more per clock cycle compared to the Celeron. Athlon also runs cooler than Celeron. I don't know what that other guy is talking about. The only Intel processors that are better than their AMD competition is the Core 2 Duo.
If you want a really cheap fast processor, go to newegg.com. They have an Athlon 3200+ for $55.

For gaming, neither of those processors. They're fine for surfing the web but not gaming.

A gaming processor would be an AMD Athlon FX, Athlon 64x2, Intel Core Duo or Intel Core 2 Duo.

AMD has cheaper processors with decent performance but Intel has the best performance with its Core 2 Duo processors, the E6300 Core 2 Duo processor will run you about $250.

I wouldn't trust the processors you listed as far as I could throw them with any gaming or heavy multimedia task.

AMD processors don't have the "bells & whistles" Intel has, the form is diverse Intel has multithreading..etc...The 975 has bigger bench marks than the 1100. the closest to the 1100 in bench marks is the 950...there is only $40 cost distinction. the perfect "bang for the greenback" is Intel 2600K at $328. the 2600K ranks # eleven on an identical time as the 1100 ranks #37, there is only $a hundred distinction..The 975 ranks #22 and way overvalued at $1045...think of roughly it... the 2600K is swifter than the 975 and $717 extra much less costly. as you will locate PRICING potential doo-doo while it comprises overall performance!

I am told by an expert in PCs that AMD is faster and cheaper than Pentium. Another friend has used AMD based PCs in his office and he was very happy with the same, compared to his P4 based PC at home. I have no personal experience since I am using a Celeron based PC.

AMD! I switched many years ago to AMD and havent had a failure yet, aint seen any difference in performance either! Some will claim that Intel is faster but the human eye cant see the nanoseconds in difference!

AMD is better.
If you know how to overclock
Get an AMD Opteron 165
it is a dual core 1.8ghz
but you can make it go much faster (2.8ghz for me)
it cost about 160 or so
maybe more.

well......amd is better that's for sure but since it is too powerful, it tends to be power consuming and heats up really easily as compared to intel. so..... the choice is yours (had the same kind of dilema some weeks ago but i then chose intel [for laptop] )
