(a-2)^2 + 3(a+2)= a(a-4)+1
a^2 -4a+4+3a+6 =a^2 -4a +1
a^2-a+10 = a^2 -4a+1
3a = -9
a = -3

expand it
a^2 - 4a+4 + 3a + 6 = a^2 -4a +1
gather terms
0.a^2 + 3.a = -9
so a = -3
check
25 -3 = 21 +1

a^2 - 4a + 4 + 3a + 6 = a^2 - 4a +1
3a + 10 = 1 (subtract a^2 - 4a from each side)
3a = -9 (subtract 10 from each side)
a = -3 (divide both sides by 3)
