are you you fill the tank with the engine running? This will cause the sensor to trigger...............disconnect the battery for 10 minutes the loss of power will reset the ECU

I just traded My 02 Dakota in. Had the same problem I took it to the dealer and told them that I was getting tired of the light always coming on, They replaced the cap but that would only work for awhile. Must be a defect in those trucks.

Find a garage which offers to "smoke" test your vehicle. This machine is great, it pumps a visible vapor into the evap. system and allows the mechanic to pinpoint the leak. As you noticed from the laundry list of components given by other contributors you could be searching for quite a while for the bad part and it could be more than one. We charge $35-65 for a test depending on how long it takes to find the problem. Good luck with this.

If you have replaced the cap twice it,s obviously not that so you need to take it in and have the emission system checked for a leak. A good shop or dealer can test the system and be able to tell you where the leak is.

You get what you pay for...since you're paying nothing...

There are several components responsible for your evaporative emissions system, any of which could be the result of your failure.

Since your method of diagnostic appears to be indiscriminate replacement of parts, try picking another fuel containment system part and replace that one too. Keep changing parts until you acheive your desired result.

Here's a shopping list from AutoZone:

Canister purge solenoid
Leak detection pump
fuel tank
filler neck
vapour hoses/lines
PCM

Stop being a cheap pr1ck and admit you're out of your league. Take it to a garage, preferably not Gomer Pyles' and get the damn thing diagnosed.

r u giving thhe cap a good spin to make it click they say to turn the cap so it clicks at least 10 times. also check the filler neck to see if theres a nick in it that will cause a leak and ckeck the vent tube attached to the neck for holes

Best look at all connections to the fuel tank. It might not be the cap.
