Last summer I hurt my leg while running. It was not a major injury; it only hurt when I lefted it up. So I continued to run on it for another two weeks. I haven't been running at all since then.

However, I still get a little bit of pain (it's not really pain but it feels funny) when I left my leg up. I'm afraid to start running again. Is this a permanent injury? It has been a good 7-8 months.

Did you go get a medical examination from a physician? An actual diagnosis with proper treatment will help your legs.

As for running, there are a few things you can do to avoid pain.

1. Shoeware - You should change your running shoes every 4 to 6 months or 400 miles. Make sure they are supportive and fit properly. There are stores that specifically look at your gait when you walk and run and can advise you on the proper shoeware for you.

2. Ease back into running - Start with alternating 60 to 90 seconds of walking with 60 to 90 seconds of running, for 15 to 20 minutes. Increase your running ratio weekly provided you don't have pain.

3. Warm up and stretch - Jog for a few minutes until you have light perspiration and go through a comprehensive lower body stretching routine. Also stretch after running to gain flexibility.

4. Stop if you feel pain and consult a physician to get a diagnosis. 7-8 months is a very long time to be inactive due to an undiagnosed injury.

I think if you rest it for a couple weeks and start like moving your leg up and down and put ice on it it should get better. If it does not heal go to the doctor.
