The best AV program I've ever run is NOD32.
Voted the best AV program of 2006.
I have found nothing like it & it has no bad points.

Try it free for 30 day then you know why.

I agree that if you want a free antivirus program then the one to get is Avast. Its very popular and has an effective list of shields that protect different parts of your computer. and the ability to schedule a boot time scan almost makes it certain that you'll get rid of the annoying virus.

I have used a lot of anitiviruses. Norton, Kapersky, Mc Affe and a lot more. The best according to my past experiences with them is Avast Antivirus.
Why ?
It is Free, uses minimal system resources for its activity and auto updates the its virus database regularly.
Linux version is also available for free.
Hope it helps...

I would say Windows One Care. It protects against everything in once program and it's very efficient. It protects against spayware, viruses, etc. it costs money though.

The best one that doesnt cost money in my opinion is AVG
