In the US, if you get an MBA from a top 15 school, you are likely to increase your salary by 50%-100%, can change fields and can choose between multiple job offers.
An MBA from a ranked school will improve your salary and give you several options in the kind of work you do. The benefits of the MBA are directly related to the ranking.
An MBA from an unranked school may help you get ahead n the job you currently hold. It is unlikely to help you get a new job and will not increase your salary enough to justify the cost of the degree unless your company pays for it.

MBA is not a career, it's a degree with a prescribed course of study in one of many different universities. Most allow the individual student the opportunity to focus on a particular aspect of business such as finance, management, etc.
MBA--Master (degree) of Business Administration.

An MBA is NOT a career it is a course of study that focuses on business, finance, quantitative analysis, etc... folks w/MBA's can do a host of different careers and can demand a higher salary than someone w/a BA in Econ, Business, Finance, etc...
