If I take the screen off of my laptop will It still work if I connect it to a crt monitor? reason being the screen keeps flickering and I have to hit the side or top of it to get it to work again.

Maybe, maybe not try it with the monitor first the flicker might not be the screen it could be something else. If it works with the monitor feel free to take the screen off. Personally I would leave the screen on it anyway.

The screen on y our laptop is going out. It's either the backlight in the monitor or the monitor itself going bad. If the laptop is still under warranty, call for repair.
This is not an issue with the video card since you can use an external display.

You may be able to, but if you feel confident enough in modifying your laptop, you may also want to consider replacing the backlight with LEDs. There are instructions listed here: http://www.engr.mun.ca/~wakeham/lcd.htm , so you may want to consider this option.
