As a carbonated drink (contains carbon dioxide under pressure), is opened, the pressure is released with a 'Hisss', and bubbles appear in the liquid.
Bubbles are likely to rise to the top of the bottle or can, and may overflow.
The degree of bubbling depends on the temperature. Straight out of the fridge, the hiss and amount of bubbles is lower than a warm liquid.

If it's very warm .. beware .. you and others nearby will get sprayed.
