Back when my oldest two were little and my youngest hadn't come along yet, we were living in a trailer park of all places and one swept through the area. We didn't have the car since my husband was at work and really didn't have anywhere to go. So at the peak of the storm, I sat i my living room on the floor and held my two boys, and my breath, while it passed. I remember going outside afterwards and the only real damage it had done was blow away one neighbor's shed so we walked around picking up all her stuff.
I lived in Illinois and in Iowa, where they are inevitable, and I've seen some pretty nasty weather. They do fascinate me, though. I'm probably more fascinated than scared anymore.

When I was younger, was in the car with my older sister and her son, she lived in the country we had been into town in northern Minnesota, were on our way back home when we spotted the tornado, it was coming straight toward us. My sister turned the car around we headed back toward town, we made it to a friends place before it hit, luckily the house we were in wasn't hit. One of my other sisters had an unused train track behind her house, one night in the middle of the night she heard what sounded like a freight train going down the tracks, it was a tornado, the only thing it touched was the dog house moved it from one end of the yard to the other. My family has been lucky so far.

There was one that wiped out half of a little town about 10 miles from here 5 years ago. There was no wind or rain here and the sky was even clear.
When I was 6 or 7 one just missed our house late one evening. It broke out every window, and ripped off most of the shingles. When we came out of the basement there was a good sized tree limb in the kitchen.
What I remember most was the sound, I thought it was a train but there was no tracks nearby.

It was kind of scary. I was like 5 and there was one. My dog, my sister(who was a baby), my mom, and my dad sat in a hallway with no windows under a matress. The tornado miraculously missed our street. We went outside after we had the clear and looked at the sky. It was incredible! They're scary but pretty afterwards, as long as they didn't destroy your street. =)

I absolutely have not at all experienced a twister, in effortless words a hurricane. It became very scary and we couldn't come outdoors for some days. each thing became nailed down, and when we did come outdoors, lots of the trees were blown down.
