I think it's all about testosterone levels. The more chest hair the more testosterone. Too, if they're bald but have hair on their chests, they have more testosterone.

The limit of how much hair a man can grow on his chest is determined by genetics - specifically how many hair follicles he has there. Within that limit, the higher the testosterone levels, the more hair. So a guy with relatively few follicles but high hormone levels may have about the same amount of hair as a man with more follicles and lower hormone levels. A man who is blessed with lots of follicles plus lots of hormones will have a chest rug, but if either factor is lower, he will have less.

DNA, have u ever heard of this. Men with hairs on the chest have a great possibilty for baldness.

Good answers I've seen so far, but I want to add just a brief comment about this. Yes, it is definitely hormonal(testosterone in this case) BUT it is also combined with your individual genetics.

Some men have hairy chest then other because they shave their chest and the guys with the hairy chest dont shave. Duh!
