The doctors are going to induce my labor using cervadil and pitocin. What should I expect? At what point should I request pain relief?

Also, I understand that labor inductions do not always work. Had anyone had this experience?

I have. They had to induce me because I was not progressing. But just to warn you. You may want to ask for your epideral first. (thats the pain relief method i advise) When that pitocin hits it is much more intense. I have had babie with and without induction. When I didn't have induction it was still "intense" but it seemed to come on "SLOWLY". But with the pitocin, you skip all the "SLOWLY" and it just hits.

Now some people don't respond to it and I can't advise you on that cuz that didn't happen to me. It will all be fine though. Women do it everyday. Just remember to ask for pain relief first if you have a low tolerance to pain. Remember this is "LABOR" it means "WORK".

Good luck and best wishes on your bundle of joy.

I was induced 2 weeks after my son was orginally due. It was great, I went in around 8 am to be given the pitocin, after a while the doctor broke my water, then the pain began, they became so intense I had to be the epidural, which puts a lot of pressure on your back when inserted. I believe the epidural is the way to go, Labor is very painful! I have had two vaginal births. I tore twice down there, the contractions were too intense. I was a little ittty bitty person before pregnancy and after. What I would do is watch tlc and watch the baby shows. They have one about giving birth and it'll show you what to expect. I watched it faithfully when I was pregnant. Don't be afraid, it'll all be over soon. Just keep on saying you are going to see your baby. It'll happen so fast in your head. When that baby comes out your life will be better.

I had 2 of my 3 labors induced and another one is being done tomorrow ! It does work. My first one was with Pitocin and the 2nd induction was with prostiglandin gel. They were equally effective and when labor hits, it hits hard, so ask for an epidural right away!
The epidural didnt work with my 3rd labor (2nd induction), but fortunately I have quick labors. Sometimes the inductions just take longer to get started (some say 24-48hrs) but mine worked within 2-4 hrs. Good luck to you!

you will be hooked up to a contraction monitor. the scale goes up to 100+ i think. they will eventually ask you what your pain is like ona scale of 1 to 10. i lied and said it was worse to get the epidural earlier because otherwise i would have had to wait a long time because they were busy. i think my contractions were around 30-40 on the scale when i requested the epidural and right before the delivery they were registering at or close to 100. thanks to the epidural, i slept through almost all of my labor. they will start you out slowly with the pitocin and bump it up every hour or so as you progress. they will most likely have to break your water for you. for me, everything was slow until that happened and then things started moving pretty fast. just relax and request the pain relief whenever you want it.

My labor was enduced and it worked. Basically they put the medication in my IV and two hours later I was in pain and requested an epidural and about 45 minutes later my baby boy was born.

Mine worked both times I was induced. It went way faster than laboring alone.
