I like project Gutenberg. You can read free books that are consider in public domain. They do not have current bestsellers on the site since they are still copyrighted.

Since interest varies in readers, here is a list of online sources that include most and best authors of the past. Books that are still in copyright, that is current and being sold by publishers, will not be found online unless it is a university library with special permission and for matruculated students only.

The Gutenberg site is an excellent place to read ebooks. But you might want to check your local public library. Many libraries offer ebook services such as netLibrary, Ebrary, Tumblebooks, Overdrive Eaudio etc. You just need a library card to access these services, and a library card is free!
