the best known insulator is dead air. so whe you build ur thermos make sure that u make somthing to hold the fluids in that has a pretty good insulation like glass ir sumthin then take another material that wil keep the hot or cold surrounding air from getting to the container.

You either need to make a vacuum between an inside layer touching the liquid and an outside layer touching the outside, or put some extremely good insulators between the two layers.

I suggest you have left it a little late!

get a small plastic bottle and wrap newspaper around it neatly. Tape it all down. Get a larger plastic bottle and cut it down the side till it's in half and chop the top of the neck of. Put the smaller bottle inside the larger bottle - adjust newspaper packing till it's a nice fit. Tape together the larger bottle with the smaller bottle inside. Tape to seal between the cut down neck of the larger bottle and the smaller bottle inside. Screw the lid on the smaller bottle. done.
