I think it originated out of Latin America.. and was embraced by the ghetto's.. mostly the Afro americans who took it to a new level..
The roots however are most likely in Brazialina Copoera style dance which is very rythmic and acrobatic.. simular to breakdancing which was the first form of hip hop..
Afro-Americans try to claim 100% credit.. but in Austrlaia.. I can tell you most of the first practitioners of hip hop were white kids.. the blacks got into it many many years later.. and now that its cool they think they own it..
In Australia.. we now have islander gangs.. trying to emulate the bloods and crips.. evne tattooing gun symbols and most of them have never seen a gun as they are illegal throughout Australia.. its really sad ot be honest.. meanwhile.. the Brazilians still do capoera.. and are bar none the toughest, meanest and best dancers.. who NEVER got or get any credit.. but I guess they know who they are..
Take a bow latinos.. you deserve it..
