Why would other pinoys think that we have it? We should all be thankful that we don't have because Philippines is designed by God to be a paradise.

In all fairness to our government, it's been doing an okay job of trying to keep SARS and bird flu from spreading to the Philippines. They've been stricter about imports of poultry products especially from East Asia. If I'm not mistaken, there have been bird flu infections, but since these were in areas where migratory birds nested it was easy to contain.
Also, it also has a lot to do with our being an archipelago. Even if one island gets infected, the infection won't spread as quickly. In contrast, Europe and mainland Asia are basically one landmass. Not only migratory birds but people as well can bring the virus around with them.
If I remember correctly as well, the SARS cases in the Philippines were all people who had travelled to Hong Kong at the height of the epidemic there.

Several people have died or become infected in the Philippines from SARS, but at least some of these had recently travelled. As the Philippines is geographically isolated (by water) from the rest of SE Asia, it's harder for the problem to move around.

There has been cases of Bird Flu in Philippines just not that many..in regard to SARS remember that it affects people of certain race , if you study the history of the Philippine people you will realize that their Asian blood is greatly diluted with Spanish as well as the original aboriginal races. Though I am far from an expert in this I have been all over Asia and my wife is Filipina.. Pinoys , Chinese and Japanese ect..all have much different features and genealogy. Therefore not all "Asian" people are as susceptible as the Chinese.

With everyone and their dog having a chicken that they sleep with, I think that the Gov't is keeping all the cases secret. If they're so good at keeping the bird flu out, why don't they do something about rabies?

sir, SARS is no threat to filipinos because most of us live in the gutter. there are worse things in the gutter than a silly virus. i'm sure we, the very unfortunate, have developed all sorts of resistance towards any viral infections. our bodies are practically viral farms. so a little SARS will go unnoticed in our country. right now, i have a tapeworm and i think it's ready to come out and say hello. i'm going to have a new pet. what should i name it? i would appreciate any suggestions. salamat po sa dime in advance, sir.

because i care deeply for my little filipino people, i paid SARS millions and millions of $ to stay away from our little island nation. so be assured, as long as there is breath and beauty in this body, all of you will be safe from harm.
God bless.
