Quick Launch icons on the taskbar? You can just drag and drop shortcuts from desktop into that area and it will make them for you.
If the Quick Launch bar is not there at all, just right click on the taskbar, go to Toolbars and enable it.

Do you mean in the space between the start menu and the open programs?????
If so......
Right click on an empty space anywhere on the taskbar, then click on toolbars in the menu, and check "Quick Launch. A couple of the program icons should automatically appear where you want it. Just drag and drop icons from the desktop to put your own icons on there.
