clay bricks are normally used for simpleconstruction with little or no need for reinforcement in areas that are not seismically active
Brick is also commonly used for non-load bearing walls in apartment buildings and otherlarger construction projects, they rest of the walls, mostly will be made of concrete

to expand on regerugged's answer, have you seen a brick house burn? Once the wooden support structure is gone, the brick walls usually collapse under their own weight. Clay bricks are mostly ornamental in structural applications. Unless your making a barbecue pit.

Today, concrete blocks are made to perform both as structural elements and as exterior finish elements. You find this on new retail buildings, enclosed shopping malls.

because concret is the "main frame" of the building and then the clay becuase it's cheaper
