To my knowledge there are no programmes that can assist with the music writing process, however a plethora of software exists to help you record the tunes you write - for example: Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools and so on. Incidentally there are some programmes out there that attempt to get a computer to write its own music based on sets of various mathematicals rules and equations, but the results are usually rather poor and aren't likely to get in the top ten!!
