I hope you can let go of the idea of having a ragdoll from any "backyard" breeder. I feel that is risky at any price. If you must have that breed of cat you need to deal with a responsible breeder - one who will let you see all the cats in their cattery so you can assess the health of the whole cat population, to see if the living conditions for the cats and kittens is clean and that no cat has any sign of illness.

Otherwise you will be cheated in the sense you may get a kitten with health or genetic problems which might be life-long or expensive to correct. If would not pay that kind of money unless I had at least three references from other adopters that the kittens they took were healthy and doing well in their new homes.

Depends on where you purchase the kitten and also if the kitten is Show quality or Pet Quality. I did a quick search on a couple of Ragdoll Breeders websites and they are selling their Pet Quality kittens from 400 to 650 and the Show Quality kittens look like they are going fro about 1,000 and up. They also have a waiting list for their kittens as they do not breed their cats as many times as a backyard breeder will and reputable breeders care where their animals go. If you are thinking of getting a Ragdoll, please do not go to a backyard breeder. The animals live in deplorable conditions, do not receive medical care and they overbreed them causing alot of health and behavioral issues. You may get a Ragdoll cheaper from a BYB but you will end up spending alot more in vet care.
Unless you plan on showing her/him, I highly recommend going to Petfinder.com and do a pet search for Ragdoll Cats and you will find 185 that are in shelters and rescues that are in need of homes.

I'm in Canada and a purebred Ragdoll is around $800.
I have a Ragdoll cat, but she isn't purebred - she came from a litter of two tabbies, and one of her brothers was a snowshoe Lynx, too. We like it that she's a mix, because she's got the best features and characters of a Ragdoll, but the face structure of a tabby (not the skinny pointed Siamese face), even though she has the dark coloring and blue eyes.

That is the going price but be prepared for a lot of high vet bills. If I were you I would adopt instead for it is cheaper. Shelter pets need a home more than breeders and pet stores need your money. Save a life and adopt instead.
Try petfinder.com they have all breeds and ages.
Good luck!

Backyard breeders usually breed poor quality animals. You are better off adopting a free DSH.
