I am a 45 year old woman, and when I was younger I had these weird dreams. Back then (and even now), I sleep with a fan running. The dreams would start off where the fan would get louder, and then quieter, louder and then quieter, and that would go on for awhile. At this point, I would try to wake myself up, or even call out someone's name so they could wake me up, but it didn't seem like I could ever do it. During these dreams, I could see and hear everything around me, so it was like I wasn't even dreaming. I even saw my dad walk over, turn on a t.v and then wake me up, because I was sleeping on the couch and he wanted to sit down. One time I was having one of those dreams, and my sisters room was next to mine, and I wanted to be woken up. So I forced my hand, which took a lot, to hit against the wall. Well, anyway, they happened more at my parents house, but even when I moved out I would still have them sometimes. They stopped for awhile, but now I've been having them again.

When I went to bed last night, I was having one of those dreams and this time two black arms/hands were reaching from behind my bed, trying to grab me. It always feels like something's trying to get me in these dreams. I try my hardest to move or to wake up, but sometimes I can't. And it just feels like they aren't even dreams because I am aware of everything around me. If someone could tell me what these dreams are, why I'm having them or what they mean, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm not a dream analyst, but I can tell you that it sounds like this is a combination of a sleep disorder and possible night terrors. I would let your doctor know and ask for a sleep study. I think it might be good to talk to a therapist as well, just to help deal with the trauma of all of this. As someone who has sleep disorders, I understand that this is a very distressing situation, and the sleep deprivation can lead to many problems. Good luck!

You are experiencing http://sleepparalysis.dnswh.com/what_is_sleep_paralysis.htm. I have had this all my life. I've done a little research on this. The Chinese call it the " Ghost press bed". The fan you hear is a VERY loud BUZZING noise? I hear the same buzzing noise ( and many others do too) and it feels as if someone or some thing is crushing you and you cannot move. To me it feels like a evil entity, but researchers say it is not.Others feel that it is an alien abduction because most hear the loud buzzing noise and feel paralyzed. I don't believe this though. Only we can decide what is real and what is not. Check out the web site I gave you. Good Luck!! Before you go to be ask god to get rid of this presence and he will!!!!

*thinks* well.......... in the language of dreaming, there is certain definitions applied to certain symbols, but this is only a guide; there would be personal symbolism to consider as well, i.e., what those things mean to you, personally. There is no sure-fire way to interprest based on the use of a book or website. Personally, though there may be one or two things to consider as symbollic in your dream, i really think that it's just one of those dreams. We dream to reason out problems, our desires, our hopes, even our stress. Not every dream is of a "significant" importance. In my opinion, this dream, is just a normal wacky dream; you're brain mushing all the things you're thinking about together; maybe the desire for a hot BF < LOL> or one that will be there with you all the time; and your desire for things; like buying a new purse, LOL maybe even your paranoid about gettnig stuff stolen or whatever. I really don't think this holds a significant value. It's just everything you've been thinking about lately subconsciously working themselves out in your dream. Dreams are fragmented like that. LOL ♥

It could be relating to your outside life. It's like society is trying to take you and swallow you up. These Dreams could mean many things. My friend had a dream that his dad was going to die in a plane crash and a week later his dad died.(In a plane crash) So this could mean anything. Ask yourself questions... What did i do when i didn't have the dreams for a while?....Bad relationships... lose someone?....or maybe even be scared or frightened of someone or something. So just think of something positive like your family or favorite place ect. Good Luck!

You are doing something wrong in the meantime, you wish you Dad was here to advice. but he's not.. The black arms are arms of the past time, as you wish to go back to see your family again.

Try to turn off the fan, It's not healthy.. See cartoons, Mr. Bean, or something funny before you sleep.

Sounds like you might have some anxiety about something. Is there anything you do, or eat, which might be causing these dreams? Look, talk to a doctor about them. Also, you can control your dreams. When this happens think of something pleasant.

What is the difference between being in a dream state and being awake?

How you percieve what you are doing. Awake we have sense to rely on.

What happens when you remove the fine line between the two?
No one knows for sure. But I don't see any differences. Same coin but different sides.

there is a stage of sleep in which the person tries to move, waken, or open their eyes, but cannot. You really must go to your Dr. and ask for a referral to a sleep specialist.

As you intimated, I think you are half asleep and your mind is wandering, but why specifically this fan business? Sounds very mysterious. I am looking out for the answers.
