Last time I checked we where with more than 300.000.000 different people, hardly a group with one opinion and very likely with more than two.

First of all, being accused of being insular. The last time I checked, we have accepted more immigrants and have been more tolerable of people coming into our country than any other country in the world. All I ask it that the people coming into our country be glad they are here and become legal citizens. What does that mean to have blind patriotism. Why is it such a crime to be proud to live in a country where fights to keep it's independence. Have you ever been to Paris or any other place in France? I usually don't like to generalize but talk about a bunch of proud people. Almost to the extent of being rude. In our country, there are many accommodations for people from all the world. When I buy a cake mix or many other products these days, I have to weed through the languages to find the English version. So what if we are proud to live in the USA. Most of the people who live here are just trying to figure things out! Like why everyone wants to come here but why everyone hates us. We are always being criticized so yeah you could say we don't like criticism. Would you? How do you react to negative criticism? Irony? What is ironic it the the fact that the United States of America is being criticized for so many things but other countries don't seem to remember the many times we have stepped in to save their butts. The media never shows the humanitarian side of what Americans are doing around the world. That would be just too boring wouldn't it?

Irony? Oh, we don't have that here!! Not in the Rust Belt. And who the heck told you we have knee-jerk reactions to criticism? How dare you!
We have NEW-jerk reactions to criticisms (if we weren't jerks before, we're new jerks now). Big difference, Buddy. As far as blind patriotism goes, it doesn't go far enough. We should be not only patriotically blind, but deaf and mute as well. And that's what our great President Shrub is striving for every day in office: mute Americans. And by golly we're almost there! Now if we could just rid ourselves of that Freedom of the Press thing.
I didn't answer the charge of being insular because I don't choose to acknowedgle an opinion that implies we're an island. Hey, we're almost a full continent.

A. Insular, not really we are not completely closed to new ideas.
B. Blind patriotism, hell know, if we had blind patriotism everyone would be in full support of our President(who has about a 30% approval rating at present) and we would all be supporting the war and the soldiers who are fighting.
C.There is a difference between negative criticism and outright bashing. We for the most part, are getting the latter from this country's detractors.
D.As irony indicates mockery, sarcasm or the intent to insult something or someone most of us get that. I personally as you know enjoy a good sarcastic comment and make them myself.
Now, don't you write me and tell me to lighten up I answered you honestly and that's what you wanted. I was in a sarcastic mood yesterday go look at my questions in politics and govt. section. You may get a hoot. The answers to one in particular may change your mind about our ability to understand sarcasm and mockery.

We like our attitudes. If we wanted to be like spineless Europe, we wouldn't have ran you folks out at bayonet point like we did.
Blind patriotism? No. We know what we're doing. And we're fiercely devoted to our country, our way of life, and our flag. We can kick each others butts, and that's ok. But if any foreigner tries to mess with us, they will find out how ruthless good 'ol American boys can be!
Criticism? Yes. Baseless bad-mouthing, no. Especially from those from foreign countries who have nothing but cyber-spines to back it up. I seriously doubt any of you would trash us to our faces. They'd be scraping you up off the streets of Detroit.
We understand you folks perfectly. How ironic is that?
